Olympics 2008

Fencing is one of only four sports that have been featured in every modern Olympic Games, beginning in 1896. Fencing calls for adaptability, inventiveness, good organization and patience. This is achieved by good partnership between the shooter and master fencing. The effort is necessary if a competitor is to be ready for a game, long hours and must be spent in training, where a lot of attention and discipline are required.

Fencing evolved from an ancient form of combat, and practice indoors. The shooter is seeking total visits for the victory, while at the same time dexterously avoids being hit by an opponent.

Foil, epee and sabre are the three weapons used in sport of fencing, where both men and women competing. The target areas, and the blade, for the three different weapons.

Some 200 fencers will take part in the 2004 Olympic Games. The fencing competitions will be held in the Fencing Hall of the Helliniko Olympic Complex.

Fencing six disciplines are the Olympic program, which consists of six and four teams:

Foil men (from 1896) - individual and team

Women's Foil (1924) - individual events

Men's épee (1896) - individual and team

Women's épee (1996) - individual and team

Sabre men (1896) - individual and team
