Small plane hits house in Las Vegas; 3 dead
LAS VEGAS - An experimental plane crashed into a house shortly after takeoff Friday, killing the pilot and two people inside the home, authorities said. ADVERTISING
The pilot of home-built plane radioed that he had problems shortly after taking off from the North Las Vegas Airport, said Ian Gregor, a Federal Aviation Administration spokesman Hawthorne, California
"He said he was unable to gain altitude and went down," said Gregor.
Firefighters quickly doused a violent fire in the house in an area south of the main runway at the airport.
The pilot and a resident of the house died in the crash 6:28 pm, and another person in the house is dead after being taken to University Medical Center in Las Vegas, said a deputy fire chief, Kevin Brame .

The names of the dead were not immediately released.
Gregor characterize the rear propeller speed-173 aircraft RG as "experimental" and said he could be built from a kit. FAA records showed the plane was certified for flight in 2002, he said, and belonged to a resident of Las Vegas. The name of the owner was not released.
Gregor said the FAA and National Transportation Safety Board investigators were moving to North Las Vegas to investigate the accident.
North Las Vegas Airport is the second airport in Nevada after McCarran International Airport in Las Vegas, according to airport Web site. It is a busy hub for small planes and jets, and serves as a base for flights to the Grand Canyon and other attractions.
