Knoxville, Tennessee (AP) - responsible for enforcing the law says 16-year-old student died after a shootout in a Knoxville, Tennessee high school.
The shooting at Central High School was reported to police at about 8:10 Thursday morning. The police, they took a suspect into custody six minutes later near the school and recovered the firearm.
Knoxville Deputy Chief Bill Roehl (Rohl) confirmed the death of the student.

Knoxville, Tennessee (AP) - Police have taken a suspect into custody after a shootout in the cafeteria of a Knoxville, Tennessee high school.
The shooting at Central High School was reported to police at about 8:10 Thursday morning.
Darryl spokesman for police DeBusk said the police have a suspect in custody six minutes later near the school and recovered the firearm.
At 16, a student was injured and taken to a local hospital. There was no immediate word on his condition.
The school was placed on lock after the shooting. School are preparing to release the students a classroom at a time, then bus to a church so they can be cared for by their parents.
Student Dies After Knoxville School Shooting
"This was not a shootout that was a coincidence," says Roehl. "It was an individual in its aggression towards another individual, not the school or students in the school."
The cafeteria is a popular place to gather before classes began at 8:30 o'clock in the morning, students. Chad Griffin, 15, and Josh Matthews, 14, said they were seated about 10 feet from the victim and talk when they heard a strong noise.
Griffin first thought someone had dropped a book and then looked around.
"He turned and began to walk and he held his chest. There was blood everywhere. And then he fell and his arm hit me," said Griffin.
Matthews said he thought it was a fake at first but then realized the shooting was real.
"I took off running and ran outside and called my mother," said Matthews.
The students in the cafeteria began to cry and scrambling to leave, while others have tried to get in the room, thinking they had missed a fight, witnesses. The students began to gather around the victim, "said freshman Jared Wohlford, 14. "Everybody started to run really fast," he was shooting, "he said.
Knox County Mayor Mike Ragsdale issued a statement of sympathy and support:
"This morning, our community has been broken and our heart broken. The thoughts and prayers of all Knox Countians focus first on students, families and staff of Central High School. Our hearts especially go to Family and friends of Ryan McDonald, the young victim of the shooting. Violence is never more heinous and shocking when it invades our schools.
The suspect's name was not released. No other students were injured.
The school, which has about 1400 students, has been locked after the shooting. Classes were dismissed and students were bused to a nearby church so that they can be cared for by their parents.
