Starting from 11:00 am EDT, Gustav was 325 miles south of the mouth of the Mississippi River and 410 miles southeast of New Orleans.

Hanna tropical storm was centered about 145 km north-northeast of the island of Grand Turk and projected trajectory is discussed below.

Hurricane Gustav should strengthen a return to the category 4 hurricane later in the day. Do not be fooled by the slight weakening of the storm during the night.

A cyclone warning is in effect from Cameron, La., Alabama / Florida border, including New Orleans and Lake Pontchartrain. A tropical storm warning is in effect for the Lower Florida Keys west of Seven Mile Bridge to the Dry Tortugas, and Alabama / Florida border east to the Ochlockonee River.

A tropical storm warning and hurricane watch is in effect from Cameron, Louisiana, west to High Island, Texas.

Hurricane Gustav is expected to remain a major hurricane when it reaches the central Gulf coast. The storm weakened slightly May return to a Category 3 hurricane before making coasts late on Monday along the southwest coast of Louisiana.

According to forecasters, the storm should be as bad as everyone feared the worst scenario as Gustav should move to the west of New Orleans.

The outer rainbows of Gustav begin affecting the coastal areas of Louisiana, Mississippi, Alabama and Florida Panhandle today with scattered showers and thunderstorms.
