Akshay tritiya have two words in it's name. Akhay means Things that don't lost, distroy or ends.
Akshay tritiya is very important day in terms of astrology and veda. It is the teej(third day from starting of hindu month vaishakh). On this day all good works can be started with out any worry. charity or good work done on that day is remebered for years in history and gives good return of it.
History of Akshay tritiya (Akha teej)
Maharshi ved vyas started to write mahabharat on this day. It is celebrates as avbirthday of parshuram in many regions. On this day the god vishnu is worshiped with Akhat(Rice). In some part of india godess laxmi and Kuber(god of tresure) is worshiped on that day. It is also important day for buying new things and also gold and silver.
It is also starting of treta yug in which god Ram was born.
Sun and moon are on peak of thier brightness on this day.
Badrinarayan temple also opened on this day for peoples after the winter break. In this year it will be on 7th day of may 2008.
